Смешанная государственно-частная корпорация спутников связи, созданная в 1962 в соответствии с Законом о спутниках связи [Communications Satellite Act of 1962]. В корпорацию входят несколько сот частных компаний-держателей акций; правление и совет директоров состоят из государственных чиновников и частных лиц. В 1963 представители 18 государств мира подписали соглашение об участии в деятельности КОМСАТа и создали международную корпорацию ИНТЕЛСАТ [INTELSAT] с участием США и более 50 других государств для обеспечения глобальной телефонной, телеграфной, радио и телевизионной связи через спутники Земли. КОМСАТу было поручено управлять ИНТЕЛСАТОМ. Первый спутник КОМСАТа, "Ранняя пташка" [Early Bird, Intelsat I], был запущен 6 апреля 1965.тж Communications Satellite Corporation
